Just over an hour’s drive from Los Cabos International Airport, Cabo Pulmo is a world apart! Once a sleepy fishing village and well-kept secret among a handful of gringo adventurers, Cabo Pulmo gained fame for its coral reef, designated as a National Marine Park in 1996. Today, it is arguably the most successful off-grid community in all of Baja, with several fine restaurants (and a bakery! new this year), dive outfitters, fishing guide, and other services. There are a couple hundred residents; a mix of full-time expats, seasonal second homeowners, and a small Mexican community. Cabo Pulmo is a popular off-beat vacation destination, with cabañas and homes offered as vacation rentals, but there are no hotels and little developed tourist infrastructure.
